Announced: Tab Rasmussen Scholarships for 2015
We are proud to announce the recipients of the Tab Rasmussen Scholarship for deserving scholars in 2015: Sabrina Moore from Mississippi State University, and Laura Schell from Harvard University.
All candidates submitted a 1000-word essay response to the following question:
Describe a product or idea (one already in existence or be creative and come up with a new one) that you think could have an important positive effect on the environment (for example, conserving resources, reducing waste, increasing energy efficiency, etc). Tell us how it works, how it would help the environment, and why you picked this product over all others.
Sabrina is studying microbiology and chemistry at Mississippi State University. Under the guidance of Dr. Thornton, she has been investigating the pathogen streptococcus pneumoniae. She plans to pursue a graduate degree in infectious diseases, and contribute to the development of public health policy. In her essay, Sabrina made a convincing argument for the use of nuclear fission reactors as a solution to the planet’s need for power.
Laura lives in Media, Pennsylvania along with my three siblings and parents. She enjoys hiking, ceramics, and playing field hockey. This spring, she will be finishing her freshmen year at Harvard University, where she plans to major in Human Evolutionary Biology. Laura’s essay convinced us that harnessing the power of exercise bikes was a unique way to address the world’s need for power.
