Sam has been fascinated by nature, and monkeys in particular, from a very young age. She graduated from the Metropolitan Autonomous University in Mexico City with a degree in biology, and in 2015 she was awarded the FPI Alwyn Gentry Scholarship to attend a Tropical Biology and Primatology Field Course in southeastern Peru. After falling head over heels in love with the forest and the field work, she began working with FPI on data processing and translations. Eventually, she became a research team leader and the lab manager for the FPI team during field seasons in southeastern Peru. In 2018, she was selected by the Inkaterra Association and FPI as the first lab manager for the Green Lab, the world’s first genetics laboratory in the Amazon rainforest. Her passions include genetics, evolution, and ecology, but what she most enjoys is teaching science. She will be starting her Masters Degree in Evolutionary Biology at Uppsala University in Sweden in the fall of 2020.
